I Do A Better Job With An Ergonomic Workstation And Workplace Ergonomics
Having learned about all the benefits there are to having an ergonomic workstation and a good computer posture, I decided to turn my workplace ergonomics around. Now, with an ergonomic workstation and a correct computer posture my work hours seem shorter, my body feels less tired and I am improving my performance at work.
Before having my office space arranged as en ergonomic workstation, I began to feel some of the many problems your body develops because of not having an ergonomic workstation. This means your workplace is not designed for your body’s needs and so after long hours of sitting in front of your computer, you may develop all sorts of back and neck injuries, arthritis in joints all over your body, carpal tunnel syndrome and cataracts.
Having good workplace ergonomics means you modify your work gear and space, just a little bit, it doesn’t have to be a drastic change, just with little changes you can make the difference. For example adjusting the glare and light of your computer so it isn’t too bright and doesn’t hurt your eyes. It is very aggressive for the human eye to have to stare into a computer monitor for long hours, let alone having it to be into a shiny monitor. Also, once every half an hour I look away from the computer and let my eyes rest for a couple of minutes.
Another important modification I did to make my office an ergonomic workstation was to have the correct chair. The chair makes all the difference to make sure your body is sitting in the appropriate posture to take off pressure of your back, and legs. Your spine needs to be as straight as possible and your legs bend straight over the floor. Of course you changing posture every once in a while is important.
Now that I have an ergonomic workstation and good computer posture, I am not feeling the back pain I used to feel when I didn’t have it. With an ergonomic workstation, it also means I adjusted the monitor of my computer to be at eye level. This so that I wouldn’t have to tilt my head to look in to the computer so my neck is straight. Having and ergonomic workstation also allows me to have the papers I need to do my computer work at hand and in front of me (maybe having the page next to the computer) so I don’t even have to turn my body or move around a lot to reach for them.
I strongly recommend people everywhere to change theirs into an ergonomic workstation and to try a correct computer posture when sitting down, and I am sure you will start to do better in your job and prevent health problems that may affect you for life.
